Airport demonstrations scheduled for 11 a.m., Wed., Feb. 29 at DFW, New York  (JFK and LGA), LAX, SFO, Boston, Miami, Atlanta, St. Louis, Chicago (ORD), Detroit, Tulsa, and Nashville
 
Members of the Transport Workers Union (TWU) employed at American Airlines and American Eagle, joined by flight attendants (members of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants/APFA), retirees, family members and labor supporters will hold demonstrations at airports across the country this Wed., Feb. 29, at 11 a.m. to protest threatened job, pension and healthcare cuts at the two AMR subsidiaries.

This week TWU Local 250-A filed a petition in the California Superior Court to have last year’s arbitrator’s decision, that imposed a contract on Muni Operators, overturned.

The filing is against the numerous violations of law and procedure, such as how the makeup of the Mediation/Arbitration Board violated provisions of the city charter, proper notice of the arbitration proceeding to the members of 250-A was not given and how the Board failed to conduct evidentiary hearings.

On Valentine’s Day, almost 400 mostly union employees gathered outside DFW International Airport’s Terminal D in a show of support for all AMR employees. They came to protest the devastating effects of the AMR bankruptcy.

Both chambers of Congress are in recess this week for the Presidents’ Day break. Before adjourning, they were able to push through a compromise to extend unemployment benefits, as well as the payroll tax holiday, through December 31. Upon their return next week, we expect action on the Surface Transportation Bill to pick back up.

FORT WORTH – The Transport Workers Union presented plans to American Airlines management today that provide a blueprint for voluntary early out/separation as a way to avoid draconian, involuntary layoffs, while saving money for the company. 
 
On February 1, 2012, AMR management announced that it planned to reduce the company’s workforce by 9,000 from TWU-represented work groups.

As you’re well aware, the FAA Reauthorization has rapidly been moving toward passage over the past two weeks. Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted, passing 248 to 169 accepting the conference report. The Senate is scheduled to vote on Monday on whether to accept the report.

On Wednesday Feb. 1, AMR announced their restructuring plan, a plan that deals a heavy blow to nearly 9,000 TWU members working at American Airlines.

As for American Eagle’s restructuring, the company was short on specifics saying, “due to fleet uncertainty we have not finalized our plan as of now.” The fleet uncertainty is attributed to contractual articles being addressed in AAs bankruptcy.
