Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) President Harry Lombardo testified before Congress today on the need to find a long-term, sustainable source of funding for transportation infrastructure in America, while also stressing the need to protect transit workers on the job. His remarks came in testimony during the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs’ hearing on reauthorizing MAP-21, the federal surface transportation legislation.

TWU International President Harry Lombardo will be testifying before Congress on Thursday, April 23, on the importance of reauthorizing MAP-21, the federal surface transportation funding legislation. This is the first time a president of TWU has been asked to testify before Congress in recent memory. The issuance of the NMB single carrier decision for the American Airline crafts and classes of Mechanic and Related, Fleet Service and Stores is a land mark in the history of TWU representation of its airline members.  It opens the way to members to continue to enjoy vigorous TWU representation at American Airlines, both through the several joint associations established by TWU and IAM to represent the classes or crafts at the merged single carrier, and through the continued efforts of both TWU and its AA locals to deal with American Airlines management at the local level and with regard to problems particular to the formerly AA side of the merged single carrier.
