TWU International President Harry Lombardo joined International Executive Vice President and Local 100 President John Samuelsen at New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) December Board meeting yesterday, addressing the body about the importance of equitable wage increases and additional worker safety measures. Local 100’s contracts for TA/OA and MTA bus members are set to expire in just over a month, and the entire union is standing in solidarity with those members, highlighting the precedent-setting nature of New York’s transit contracts for other locals around the country.

TWU-Represented Aircraft Dispatchers Ratify Agreement with Frontier Airlines

The Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) is pleased to announce that another of its Air Division work groups has voted to ratify a new contract. The agreement with Denver-based Frontier Airlines goes into effect immediately and comes just before the holiday travel season swings into high gear.

The Frontier Airlines aircraft dispatchers voted overwhelmingly yesterday to ratify the new contract, which will provide substantial wage increases over the life of the five-year deal.

Seventy-five years ago today, the United States was attacked by Japan at Pearl Harbor, “a date which will live in infamy.”
Ninety minutes after the attack began, it was over—leaving 2,403 Americans dead and another 1,178 wounded. The U.S. was at war with Japan, and three days later, with Germany.
While the nation was stunned, the American people rolled up their sleeves and got to work: defending the country and keeping it running.
Just a week after the attack, TWU founder Michael Quill addressed a rally in New York, organized by the Greater New York Industrial Union Council.

In a blow to U.S. aviation workers, the Department of Transportation (DOT) on Friday granted Norwegian Air International (NAI) a permit to fly to the United States. TWU vehemently opposes this decision. After an election focused on protecting American jobs, the White House has decided to threaten the entire U.S. aviation industry.

NAI is a low fare airline with a corporate structure designed to avoid labor, tax, and regulatory laws. It uses a “flag of convenience” scheme that allows the company to hire employees under the laws of low wage countries with few labor protections.
