What’s Going On In The Civil/Human Rights Department

President Jim Little and Civil/Human Rights Director are in the process of reviewing a policy for TWU on Harrassment, Discrimination, and Retaliation.  President Little felt we needed something in place for our locals.  The policy should be available for distribution at the upcoming Civil/Human Rights Meeting in October.

President Jim Little spoke at the Northeast Region Diversity Dialogue held in Philadelphia PA.  President Little spoke on the topic of diversity in Union leadership and why it is important to have.  President Little also served on a panel discussing “Best Practices,” that can help with achieving diversity in your union leadership.

TWU had a delegation of members from Local 514 out of Tulsa Okla, and Local 234 there in Philadelphia.  Portia White,  TWU Legislative Representative was also in attendance. Information on future sites for the AFL-CIO Region Diversity Dialogues can be found on the TWU web-site.

President Little spoke in support of the Employment Non-Discrimination ACT (ENDA) legislation. All Union members are encouraged to write their legislatures and tell them to vote in support of the legislation.  Information on the legislation appeared on the TWU website last month.

The TWU Civil/Human Rights Meeting will be held in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Thursday, October 25,2007.  Mark your calendars.
