Labor
Women's
Health
Problems
As
more
and
more
women
enter
the
Labor
work
force,
so
enter
different
types
of
health
problems.
Women's
health
needs
are
becoming
more
and
more
evident
in
the
marketplace.
Breast
cancer
and
ovarian
cancer
have
increasingly
become
the
#1
killer
of
women
in
America.
During
the
process
from
detection
to
treatment
women
need
support.
In
TWU
Local
260
we
have
formed
a
support
group
for
women
with
these
types
of
illnesses.
We
are
putting
emphasis
on
the
fact
that
early
detection,
means
successful
treatment.
We
are
stressing
monthly
breast
examinations
and
yearly
pap
smears
as a
must.
The
women
in
this
group
post
their
phone
numbers
and
visit
each
other
while
homebound
or
hospitalized.
Additionally
we
meet
to
discuss
each
individual's
needs.
A
working
relationship
is
kept
with
our
Employee
Assistance
Program.
Through
this
program,
women
are
eligible
for
counseling
services
and
additional
support
groups
in
the
geographical
region.
A
good
relationship
is
encouraged
with
the
primary
care
physician
as
well
as
the
specialist.
This
ensures
all
medical
treatment
needs
are
met,
as
well
as
medical
information
and
care.
AIDS
is
also
another
growing
concern
for
American
women.
With
more
women
working
in a
predominantly
male
working
environment,
AIDS
has
become
a
high
priority
issue.
We
have
issued
women
booklets
from
the
American
Red
Cross
giving
the
facts
regarding
HIV,
sex
and
women.
A
Local
should
establish
that
this
information
is
readily
available
at
the
Union
office
or
the
facilities.
If
confidentiality
is a
problem,
arrange
for
time
you
may
spend
in
your
Health
and
Welfare
Trust
office
to
discuss
and
support
your
Union
sisters!
