Education & Research:
Non-Degree Labor Education
Programs
Many states have a Department of
Labor Studies or a Department of
Industrial Relations that offers
courses in labor studies or
union work. The schools are
affiliated with the United
Association for Labor Education
and can be contacted at
www.uale.org.
Local TWU unions contact the
International Education
Department for further
information.
Some schools of labor studies
have World Wide Web pages that
can be accessed directly or
through the university home
page:
Degree Programs
Some of the above-mentioned
state colleges and universities
offer degree programs leading to
a B.A. or B.S. in Labor Studies
or Industrial Relations.
Additionally, degrees can be
earned through the following
programs:
Bachelor of Arts
Hundreds of working men and
women just like you have earned
a Bachelor of Arts degree from
NLC. The program is flexible and
enables students to pursue a
B.A. while continuing their
trade union work.
The
NLC offers a simplified
classroom schedule. B.A.
students do a portion of work
online, with on-campus
instruction required for
one-week during every semester.
Semesters last 16 weeks. During
the non-residential portion of
the semester, students must
complete assignments and receive
additional instruction from
faculty via e-mail and phone at
least once a week.
A
key aspect of the NLC Bachelor
of Arts program is its
recognition of experiential
learning - that is, education
received outside the traditional
classroom. Students can earn
college credits through prior
experiential learning that is
documented and evaluated through
the NLC Educational Planning
course and portfolio process.
Majors
A student must select a major
and successfully complete the
minimum number and type of
required courses for that major
in order to receive a degree.
For the Bachelor of Arts degree,
the majors are as follows:
-
Labor Studies
-
Labor History
-
Labor Education
-
Labor Safety and Health
-
Political Economy of Labor
-
Union Leadership and
Administration
