TWU Local Union Responsibilities
The local union plays a critical role in making TWU Member Outreach Programs work. The local union, through the president, vice presidents, executive board, shop stewards, and business agents, has the internal network which allows the best accessibility to our members. And most importantly, our members trust their local union. In this critical role of contacting members, we are asking our local unions to contact TWU members for the Presidential, local, state, and Federal elections in a timely manner:

Set up table at workplace to help register TWU members to VOTE. |

June |
Send a letter to your non-registered TWU members to encourage them to register before deadline. If appropriate, enclose a VOTER registration form in envelope. |

One month later, establish phone banks to contact non-registered TWU members |

September |
First week in September, send a letter to TWU members listing all the local's endorsed candidates for political office. |

October |
Leaflet the work site with endorsed TWU candidate material. |

Send a GET-OUT-THE-VOTE letter to TWU members. |

November |
Leaflet targeted areas: malls, workplace, transit and bus stops. |
*Every state has legal requirements to register members to vote. Check with registrar office.
