On Friday, March 30th, President Obama signed the three-month extension, the ninth extension since it expired in September 2009, of the transportation bill that prevented the shutdown of highway and transit projects across the country.
The House passed the extension by a vote of 266-158. The Senate, after strong opposition to another extension and passing a multi-year transportation bill, passed it by an unrecorded voice vote.
The 90-day extension will expire on June 30th.
Congress has been in recess since last week, for the first time in one year, and will return April, 16th. In the Senate, separate transportation and apppropriations panels have scheduled back-to-back hearings for April 18.
