Dear Sisters and Brothers,
This Labor Day as thousands march in parades around the country, we know that we are in the fight of our lives. As TWU members, we have not only built America, but “We Move America.”
As we celebrate this Labor Day we are faced with the reality of economy, and the situation that our country is in. This past year has presented itself with an unprecedented amount of anti-worker legislation.
These attacks have also brought unparalleled solidarity within the labor movement and working Americans in general.
From Ohio to Wisconsin and Maine to Florida, TWU has heeded the call and our members have been on the frontlines fighting back against anti-union legislation that would set this country back at least 50 years.
In Ohio TWU members helped collect over 1 million signatures to put anti-union legislation on a referendum.
In Wisconsin TWU members from across the country were on the ground fighting to win recall elections.
In Pennsylvania TWU members from across the state demonstrated outside the state capitol in Harrisburg against proposed anti-worker legislation.
We know our history, and the accomplishments of labor. We stand ready to protect the achievements of those that have died fighting to put an end to child labor, secure the 8-hour workday, weekends, sick days, workplace safety, and more. We stand on a history of achievements and even greater ones lie ahead.
Our fight continues, the struggle endures and as TWU founder Michael J. Quill would say, “They will not break us.”
In solidarity,
James C. Little
International President
