CALLING ALL TWU MEMBERS IN THE NYC AREA!!! SUPPORT YOUR TWU LOCAL 101 BROTHERS AND SISTERS ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9 AT 5PM @ ONE METRO TECH CENTER IN BROOKLYN, NY!!!
TWU Local 101, which represents over 2,500 utility workers at the multi-national energy company National Grid, is ready to take its contract fight wherever it needs to go—starting with the streets, this Thursday outside of company headquarters in Brooklyn, NY.
At 5pm, Local 101 members will converge outside of One Metro Tech Center for their massive “Power Up” Contract Rally, joined in solidarity by TWU brothers and sisters at Local 100 and by allied unions, coordinated through the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO.
Employer National Grid controls natural gas and electricity distribution in key markets in New York, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Local 101 members have diligently, and in some cases heroically, maintained the integrity of the largest natural gas delivery system in the region.
After Superstorm Sandy, TWU Local 101 members worked to the point of collapse in 12-hour shifts, seven days a week, to restore this essential service to hundreds of thousands of National Grid customers.
The company, despite huge world-wide corporate profits and record executive compensation and other perks, has rejected the Local’s proposals for a fair and reasonable wage increase, for better on-the-job safety protocols and for the maintenance of current health care benefits. Instead, it is demanding that TWU Local 101 workers accept a 5-year pay freeze or agree to enormous out-of-pocket increases in health care contributions. This from a company that in the last year alone reported a “return on equity” of 9% and a U.S. profit of over $13 billion in their latest filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
