A coalition of unions representing more than 4,000 rail workers on New Jersey Transit announced a tentative deal late Friday night in a massive victory for TWU members, who had been working without a new contract since 2011.

Bargaining for higher wages and to protect their benefits, the union was prepared to strike as early as this weekend had a deal not been reached. Last fall, President Obama created a second Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) to investigate and make recommendations to resolve the dispute, and the Board sided with the union’s demands; but negotiations remained deadlocked until this week.

The coalition has not yet released details of the agreement, but TWU will continue to provide updates to its members as more information becomes public.
