In response to a lawsuit filed today by several companies challenging the constitutionality of AB 5, California’s new law to protect workers from misclassification, TWU president John Samuelsen issued the following statement:
“How many times to do these companies plan to lose this fight before they acknowledge their workers’ rights? Misclassified workers have already won this issue in state courts and with the California Legislature. Instead of wasting their investors’ money on this frivolous lawsuit, these companies should comply with state law — stop engaging in payroll fraud and pay their workers at least minimum wage, provide family and medical leave, and fulfill all of the other legal obligations they have to their employees.”
