On Thursday, September 29, Firefighters and First Responders at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Georgia, voted 29-1 for union representation by the TWU. These workers, employed by the Centerra Group, will join their brother and sister Firefighters and Emergency Response Workers at Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center as members of TWU Local 525.
“This campaign was successful thanks to the incredible collaboration between the firefighters, the TWU International Organizing Department and the leadership and guidance of TWU Local 525 and their officers who worked diligently throughout the entire process,” said Director of Organizing Angelo Cucuzza. “When workers can count on the advice and direction of the International and Local’s leadership, they can successfully organize even in places like Right-to-Work Georgia.”
“All workers, regardless of craft or class, should have the right to join a union. Organizing is the only true pathway to economic security for working families,” said International President John Samuelsen. “We welcome these Firefighters and First Responders to the TWU.”
