The TWU Supports TSA’s Increased Fines for Mask Mandate Violations
In response to the Biden Administration’s announcement of increased penalties for individuals who violate the federal mask mandate in airports, on commercial aircraft, aboard passenger rail, and other public transportation, the below statement should be attributed to Transport Workers Union (TWU) President John Samuelsen:
“Flight attendants and other frontline transportation workers have spent the past year enforcing the federal mask mandate, usually at great risk to their own wellbeing. Unfortunately, nearly every day we see more unruly passengers who refuse to comply with basic safety protocols and take out their anger on the frontline workers who are just doing their jobs.
“Stiffer penalties and increased fines for mask mandate violators are a great step towards ensuring that frontline transportation workers get the respect they deserve. Not only will they protect workers from senseless attacks, but they will also help our country put this deadly pandemic in the rearview mirror.”
