Flight Instructors at PSA Airlines voted overwhelmingly today to join the Transport Workers Union of America.
“This is another victory for workers moving to enhance their economic security. Now we fight to win that all-important first contract that will lock-in improvements in wages and working conditions for these hardworking Flight Instructors and their families,” said TWU International President John Samuelsen. “Today’s vote also continues the TWU’s expanding presence at PSA Airlines along with PSA Flight Dispatchers. The TWU is America’s largest airline workers union.”
Flight Instructors at the regional airline that operates American Airlines flights are divided into two groups, Simulator Instructors who train pilots on motion-based flight simulators and Ground Instructors who teach in initial procedures trainers and classrooms.
“I want to thank TWU Local 548 for their help in educating the PSA Flight Instructors on the importance of union representation and a contract,” said TWU International Organizing Director Angelo Cucuzza.
The PSA Flight Instructors will join TWU Local 548, which currently represents Flight Crew Training Instuctors, Simulator Pilot Instructors, and Flight Simulator Engineers at American Airlines, Ground School Instructors and Pilot Simulator Instructors at Envoy Airlines, and Pilot Instructors at JetBlue Airways.
“Local 548 President Chris Turner, Vice President Eric Helms, and everyone at Local 548 were critical for the team effort in this successful election effort,” said TWU Assistant Organizing Director Sean Doyle. “We look forward to begin negotiations on a first contract.”
