John Samuelsen, International President of the Transport Workers Union, issues this statement in response to the introduction of the Worker Flexibility and Choice Act (H.R. 8442):
“The Transport Workers Union calls the so-called ‘Worker Flexibility and Choice Act’ what it is: a boldfaced lie.
“If corporate interests were actually serious about workplace flexibility, you’d see them supporting the rights of their employees to have a say in what goes on in the workplace; paying people wages that keep up with the rising costs of living; and encouraging working parents to take time off to care for sick children.
“Instead, this dangerous piece of legislation seeks to deny all of these rights to working Americans AND forbid states and cities from taking any action to hold criminal corporations accountable. This bill would allow employers to trample on the rights of an untold numbers of workers. Workers deserve real fair wages, access to affordable healthcare, and a dignified retirement – all of which this bill would make more difficult to earn. Claiming this bill provides anyone other than the bosses any benefit is a boldfaced lie.”
