The TWU Applauds Passage of the House FAA Reauthorization Bill
“The Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act delivers on decades of overdue promises from Congress to TWU members. This pro-worker FAA reauthorization will make our national air space safer, improve the working conditions of aviation workers, and return good, union jobs to the U.S.
“This bill will increase safety and security standards at foreign aircraft maintenance facilities, ending FAA incentives that have long driven airlines to offshore good, union jobs to foreign facilities which are currently allowed to operate under relaxed FAA standards. It installs meaningful protections against the threat of assault on the job; rejects an attempt by airlines to exempt themselves from state labor standards; helps to ensure aircraft cabin air will soon be safe and free from toxic fumes or harmful chemicals; and ends the unsafe practice of dispatching commercial aircraft from unsecure locations. These important provisions will strengthen our national airspace and ensure commercial air travel remains not only the safest form of transportation, but one that provides good jobs for frontline workers.
“The TWU has strongly supported this legislation in the House and we are calling on the Senate to immediately take up and pass a bill that can be reconciled with the House and enacted into law before the current authorization expires at the end of September.”
