TWU President Samuelsen: DOT Innovation Principles Will Ensure Transportation Workers Have a Seat at the Table
Following Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s announcement of the DOT’s Innovation Principles, the below statement should be attributed to Transport Workers Union President John Samuelsen:
“The TWU has been working with the Biden Administration since the very beginning to make sure that workers have a seat at the table when new technology is being developed, tested, and eventually deployed.
“The DOT’s Innovation Principles, in explicit terms, enshrine workers as an essential centerpiece to innovation in transportation. These principles, which also send a strong message that innovation programs must be about ‘maintaining the highest standards of safety,’ will guide our government’s investments to ensure that federal money is used to create and sustain good, union jobs for the next generation of transportation workers. We are looking forward to working with Secretary Buttigieg as he implements these pro-worker and pro-safety principles at the Department and across our nation’s infrastructure.”
