The Air Transport Division recently mailed copies of “Aircraft Maintenance In America: Who Is Fixing My Plane?” to all American Airline Local Presidents and members working in the aircraft maintenance field. The report details specific data on aircraft maintenance performed in the U.S. and abroad. It details the continuing fight for legislation that would level the field for aircraft maintenance providers and technicians. While some maintenance repair centers are scrutinized heavily by the FAA, hundreds of others go unabated.
Overseas MROs continue to steal away American jobs in the highly specialized field of aircraft maintenance. And, there are home grown MROs that do not provide adequate pay, benefits or training for their technicians. The FAA has a serious shortage of inspectors to keep up with the growing demand for this highly technical work.
We urge our members to please take the time to read this report, and above all else, contact your legislative officials concerning this threat to U.S. jobs and our economic recovery. Let them know how you feel about U.S. jobs being outsourced to the cheapest bidders.
