They attacked the working class, gave corporations tax cuts, eliminated collective bargaining and slashed funding for education while ignoring the needs of the people, such as affordable health care and good jobs. They are the governors of nine states across America nominated for Worst Governor Ever.
The online election for Worst Governor Ever, launched on Aug. 8 at
www.worstgovernor.com in conjunction with TWU’s Workers’ Rights are Human Rights campaign, allows the American people to vote for Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, Gov. Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania, Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan, Gov. Rick Scott of Florida, Gov. John Kasich of Ohio, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, Gov. Paul LePage of Maine, Gov. Jan Brewer of Arizona, as well as a write in option, as the Worst Governor Ever.
“We have witnessed an unprecedented assault on the middle-class in statehouses across the nation with far-reaching legislation that would strip people of their rights and weaken the foundation of our democracy,” said TWU International President James C. Little. “Now, America gets a chance to let these governors know just how terrible they are.”
Or, in the words of
Moveon.org, “It’s like American Idol. But with Governors.”
As people continue to voice their outrage nation wide toward these governors through recall attempts and protests, this election provides another voice for the American people as participants can share their vote with a governor through an e-mail and on Facebook as well as Twitter.
The election has also received national attention from the
media, such as Florida’s Broward-Palm Beach New Times, The Orlando Sentinel and was featured on the AFL-CIO blog and Moveon.org.
The governors themselves have also reacted, such as Gov. Brewer who said she considered her inclusion as a “badge of honor.”
Currently, Gov. Rick Scott is in lead with Gov. Walker and Gov. Kasich following.
If you are not one of the thousands who have voted yet, you can still cast your vote at
