Local 100 and 234 co-hosted the Transit, Utility, University and Rail Working Women’s Committee Conference which brought together women from TWU Locals 171, 101 and numerous other unions, such as the Teamsters and SEIU.
The conference was a 3-day event that consisted of speakers, plenary sessions and an awards ceremony recognizing women and their roles in their union and work. A heavy focus at the conference was this year’s elections.
Women were encouraged to get others registered to vote and to get them to vote.
This is a critical election year as women have faced numerous attacks on their own rights as well the Voter ID laws being pushed across the country. Recent voter ID laws would not allow a woman whose legal name (recently divorced/newly married would be affected) does not match her current photo ID.
